Gait Scan

Gait Scan

What is TOG Gaitscan?

Gaitscan is the combination of state of the art computer hardware and software that helps our Chiropractor analyse your feet. This analysis combined with our Chiropractic knowledge and experience will detect abnormal foot function which maybe affecting you feet or anywhere else in your body

Why is Gaitscan so important?

Your foot is in contact with the ground for about 0.8 of a second when walking or about 0.25 of a second of running. Imagine trying to determine normal or abnormal foot function with the naked eye. The Gaitscan system records your time sequences during gait as you walk or run across the pressure plate. This enables our Chiropractor to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics.

Chiropractic care and GaitScan

CHIROPRATCIC CARE is aimed at removing spinal and neurological malfunction from the body. The way your spine functions is influenced by many factors, one important one being your foot movement. Functional problems in your feet can alter your walking and running pattern which can lead to issues in the joints above.

Research shows that 60-70% of people have abnormally functioning feet. This is because our feet were intended for use on a variety of surfaces such as sand and soil, and not the hard, flat surfaces we move around on all the time. Because these hard surfaces offer no support to the arches of the feet, our feet roll inwards, negatively affecting our foot function.
It is important to understand that your feet have a direct impact on the rest of your body. Your feet support you with standing and with each walking or running step. A small abnormality in foot function can have a large impact on joints higher up in the body, causing pain and discomfort as high up as the neck!

Restoring the body's natural foot movement can be achieved through the use of prescription orthotics. Orthotics or 'Orthoses' are inserts that comfortably fit into shoes and they are designed to support and improve the functioning of feet. Dean can prescribe orthotics to patients of all ages (children through to the elderly) for a variety of complaints and to athletes to help maximize performance during sport.

Prescription orthotics can help with:

  • Foot and ankle pain
  • Achillis and calve pain
  • Tired, aching legs
  • Shin splints
  • Knee pain
  • Hip and pelvic pain
  • Low back pain
  • Mid back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
