Chiropractic is best known for helping with low back pain, neck pain and headaches. However most clients are surprised to find that chiropractors also achieve great success with a huge range of other problems affecting the body. The reason is that Chiropractic addresses the health of the whole person. Remember, your nervous system keeps you healthy - so by keeping your nervous system free from interference, you will have better overall health.
There is no need for any referral - Chiropractors are licensed primary health care professionals who examine, diagnose and care for patients directly without any referral.
Once you arrive to our office you will be welcomed by our Chiropractic assistant (CA). We have a short form to fill out before you go though with your Chiropractor. As each client is unique, we will need to make sure that Chiropractic can help you. At our practice this involves a chat with the Chiropractor about your problem, which is at no charge to you. If we believe we can help you, we will proceed with a thorough history taking and physical examination. We may also need to take some X-rays to get a really good understanding of what is happening with your spine and to rule out anything serious. We will need to be able to analyse our findings and prepare a detailed report for your next visit.
Once we have all this information and have also examined your x rays we will be able to provide a plan of care that will as safe and specific as possible for your needs.
If we believe your problem is best served by another health care professional, we will refer you and hope we see you again next time you need advice.
Typically yes - most health plans cover chiropractic to a certain annual maximum. Please contact us if you are unsure and we can check with your fund.
The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Many patients sense progress within a week or two of frequent visits. Visits become less frequent as your spine stabilises.
While all forms of care carry some risk, chiropractic care has been shown repeatedly by research to be one of the safest and most effective forms of health care. By avoiding drugs and surgery, chiropractic care enjoys an excellent track record. A recent study found chiropractic adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking an anti-inflammatory drug. A thorough investigation by the New Zealand government into chiropractic care concluded that chiropractic adjustments are "extremely safe".
This varies from person to person, and many factors affect the healing process. How long have you had your problem? Are you keeping your appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and nutrition? Do you smoke? Most patients sense enough progress within a short period of time to carry out the chiropractor's recommendations.
It is always your decision as to how long you choose to benefit from chiropractic care. Most people choose to continue with scheduled “wellness care” after their initial period of care. This is because they want to maintain all the great progress they have made. These patients show up for their visits feeling great. These visits help to detect and resolve new problems before they become serious. Our job is to offer the very best care and your job is to decide how much of it you want.
Studies have found links between colic, unusual crying, poor appetite and erratic sleeping habits and spinal distress. Paediatric adjustments are extremely gentle. Knowing exactly where to adjust, the chiropractor applies a very specific and light pressure to the area that has nerve interference. Chiropractic is universal, if you have a spine it should be cared for.
